The last soup Thursday of January! 

Eggplant Parmesan Soup..This is one of my FAVE soups- even sworn eggplant haters will be surprised to find that they like it.  Ingredients:  eggplants (roasted), olive oil, garlic, onions, celery, stewed tomatoes, tomato juice, oregano, basil, garlic croutons, shredded parm, balsamic vinegar, kosher salt & pepper.  Garnished w. fresh basil & parm.  Vegetarian, Vegan (the parm is omitted and it still tastes great!) 13. per quart served w. bread for dipping.

Smoky Meatball & Vegetable Soup…. This recipe was just given to me by a friend.  I made it this past week & yum!  Ingredients:  olive oil, onions, carrots, celery, chicken stock, hominy, ground pork, garlic, oregano, egg, bread crumbs, chipoltes in adobo sauce, lime juice, kosher salt & pepper.  Garnished w. fresh cilantro & lime.  13. per quart served w. bread for dipping.

Soups & Sweet Treat 1.23.13

What a great week for soup this will be!  The Arctic blast, polar vortex, or just plain old bone chilling cold is about to settle in for the week.  To celebrate its return order a quart or two of warming, filling soup- soups that make you feel all warm & cozy inside!


Chickpea, tomato & bread soup…this soup is adapted from the cookbook Plenty by Yotam Ottolenghi.  If you are a fan of cookbooks his are a real treat.  Beautiful to look at & the recipes are wonderful.  This is a great cold weather soup.  Ingredients:  onions, fennel, olive oil, carrots, celery, tomato paste, white wine, canned italian plum tomatoes, fresh oregano, fresh parsley, fresh thyme, bay leaves, sugar, bread, chickpeas, kosher salt & pepper.  Garnished w. basil pesto.  13. per quart served w. bread.  Vegetarian & Vegan (let me know & I will omit the parm from your pesto!)

Chicken Pho…I did pho a few years ago and then forgot about it- probably because there are so many Vietnamese restaurants in our area where you can get your Pho fix.  I was wanting to do a chicken noodle soup this week- the cold weather and amount of colds/flu bugs going around seem to call for it & viola!  The latest Smitten Kitchen blog entry featured a recipe for Chicken Pho.  Warming chicken noodle soup with bright, fresh flavors- great for this time of year!  Ingredients:  Broth: roasted onions, ginger, water, chicken, kosher salt, sugar, star anise, coriander, cardamom & fish sauce, rice noodles.  Garnishes: mung bean sprouts, lime, Thai basil, cilantro, crispy shallots & slice jalapeno.  13. per quart served w. bread- Gluten-Free

Soups & Sweet Treat 1.16.14

Cold, ice, warmth, rain- wow!  Thanks to all of you that placed your coolers at the end of your drive last Thursday.  After 2 hours of delivering I have a new respect for postal workers, UPS drivers and FedEx. It sure has been dangerous out there!  I would love, love, love for all of the ice to melt, followed by an old fashion snow storm.  Just snow!  Lucky for me there is still plenty of winter left.

In celebration of the Patriots winning last night and moving on to the next round of the playoffs Beef and Black Bean Chili will be on the menu this week.  Order an extra quart and enjoy while watching the game next Sunday!

Beef & Black Bean Chili…yum, yum, yum!  Ingredients: local ground beef, red onions, garlic, tomatoes, black beans, chipotle in adobe, cumin, chili powder, kosher salt, pepper, lime juice & fresh cilantro.  Garnished w. lime marinated red onions, sour cream & grated cheese.  13. per quart, Gluten-Free (IF YOU HAVE A SERIOUS GLUTEN ALLERGY LET ME KNOW SO I AM SURE TO BUY THE CHIPOTLE THAT ARE CERTIFIED GLUTEN FREE!!!!)

Puree of Root Vegetable Soup...healthy comfort food at its best!  Features a smooth, creamy texture and complex flavor!  Ingredients:  olive oil, garlic, onions, celery, carrots, parsnips, turnip, sweet potatoes, celeriac, veggie stock, whole milk, kosher salt, pepper, fresh dill.  Garnished w. pickled beets & carrots.  Vegetarian, Vegan (tastes just as good with out the dairy!), gluten-free.  13. per quart served w. bread

Soups & Sweet Treat 1.9.14

Wow, 2014 arrived with a blast.  I feel like I just crawled out of a cave.  Looking forward to getting outside today and enjoying some “warm” weather! 

Soup is back!

Winter Vegetable Dal…coconut oil, brown mustard seeds, cumin seeds, bay leaf, onions, serrano chili, fresh ginger, garlic, red lentils, coconut milk, turmeric, garam masala, butternut squash, cauliflower, yukon gold potato, kosher salt, pepper & fresh lime juice.  13. per quart served w. bread.  Vegetarian, Vegan & Gluten Free.

Sausage Minestrone…sweet Italian turkey sausage (local), olive oil, onions, garlic, celery, carrots, tomatoes, tomato juice, bay leaves, chickpeas, white beans, zucchini, summer squash, baby pasta, fresh basil, kosher salt and pepper.  Garnished w. parm  13. per quart served w. bread.
