Soups & Sweet Treat 9.27.18

This will be the last soup Thursday in September!  How did that happen?  Enjoy this most amazing time of the year – and cozy up with a quart or two of soup!

Vegetarian Mulligatawny… this is a one of my more popular soups. Ingredients: canola oil, garlic, onions, celery, carrots, lentils, tomatoes, chickpeas, tomato juice, yellow curry powder, cumin, coriander, coconut milk, basmati rice, cilantro, kosher salt and pepper. 13. Per quart served w. Bread. Vegetarian, vegan & gluten-free 

Chicken Noodle Soup… The cure all for fall colds and shorter days. Ingredients: homemade stock (onions, carrots, celery, garlic, parsley, peppercorns, bay leaf, chicken, water and kosher salt) soup: egg noodles, celery, carrots, chicken, parsley.  13. Per quart served w. Bread

Sweet Treat: loaded oatmeal cookies. 1. Each

Soups & Sweet Treat 9.20.18

I read yesterday, on the NOAA Burlington site, that we have had 80 days 80 or over this year. I for one say yuck!  Heat and humidity are not my things. I crave the crisp days of fall, spring – and even winter. Sweatshirts, increased energy level, and SOUP weather. If the meteorologists are to believed today will be the last hot one for a while!  Thursday the highs will be in the 60s and lows may dip into the 40s. Time to tuck into a quart or two of soup!

Indian Spiced Cauliflower Soup …warm Indian spices perked up with a hit of fresh lime and cooled down with a dollop of Greek yoghurt.  Ingredients: olive oil, cumin, fennel, onions, potatoes, fresh ginger, garlic, jalapeño, coriander, turmeric, cauliflower ,tomatoes, lime juice, kosher salt, pepper. Garnished w. Greek yoghurt. 13. Per quart served w. Bread. Vegetarian, vegan (minus dairy garnish ), gluten-free (minus bread)

”Hamburger“ Soup : a favorite of mine this is a soup that my grandmother made. I made and froze batches of this near the end of my pregnancy with both my girls. It’s that kind of soup- comforting, filling, and popular with kids and adults. Ingredients: onions, celery, carrots, garlic, local ground beef, barley, ketchup, dried thyme, dried oregano, fresh parsley, kosher salt and pepper. 13. Per quart served w. Bread and Parmesan cheese. 

Sweet Treat: Double Chocolate Zucchini Bread – more like a really moist chocolate cake sprinkled w. Confectioners sugar  2  per slice

Soups & Sweet Treat 9.13.18

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  This weeks offerings are..

Italian Sausage & Zucchini Soup… loaded with end of summer veggies and herbs this soup has a rich broth thanks to the sausage!  Ingredients…olive oil, sweet Italian sausage, sweet peppers, onions, garlic, zucchini, tomatoes, fresh oregano, basil, thyme, parsley, kosher salt and pepper. Garnished with Parmesan  13  per quart served w. Bread  gluten-free, dairy-free (minus cheese garnish )

Simple Corn Chowdersweet corn at its finest!  Ingredients: local sweet corn, onions, garlic, fennel seeds, coriander seeds, bay leaves, potatoes, half and half, kosher salt, pepper and garnished w. Scallions  13. Per quart served w bread  vegetarian , gluten-free

Soups & Sweet Treat 9.6.18

Labor day has come and gone, that’s means it’s time for the soup pots to come down! What a summer- record heat, record humidity, not my favorite!  Tomorrow looks brutal BUT after that the air may change. I’m looking forward to cooler days, colder nights and softer light. This weeks soups take advantage of amazing late summer produce and can be enjoyed chilled, at room temp or heated.

Looking forward to a great season of soup!

Simple Corn Chowder…the amazing flavor from this corn chowder comes from using the cons of the fresh corn to make a quick stock. This soup is surprisingly just as delicious chilled as it is hot!  Ingredients: fresh local corn, bay leaf, fennel seeds, coriander seeds, pepper, butter, onions, garlic, potatoes, half and half, kosher salt, and garnished w sliced scallions. 13. Per quart served w bread  Vegetarian and Gluten -free

Gazpacho …a smooth version loaded with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers , peppers, and fresh herbs  Ingredients: bread, tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet peppers, fresh oregano, onions, garlic, kosher salt, pepper, olive oil Garnisjed w. Fresh herbs and diced veggies  13. Per quart served w bread  vegetarian and vegan

sweet treat: chocolate chip pecan cookies  1.each
